Flash G. Bio
Flash G. DJ career started about 4 years ago in year 2000. You
might be saying to yourself that short time compared to other DJs, but I'm
fast learner & practice very hard to make up for lost time. My love for
spinning didn't start until I put the microphone down 1999. I'd always collected
records either for freestlyin or sampling purpose but never did I think of
blending or scratching a record together until I met fonz. My respect for
DJs was always as high as Mcing was but I never met DJ who made spinning look
so easy and enjoyed it both at the same time. You can say I became Fonz's
understudy when he would come over. I would watch him all day & night
spin without asking single question. My appreciation for spinning grew by
the minute and by the end of the day I'd learned more than I did day when
day started. Chicago is DJ city so finding other DJs with same interest wasn't
hard. For one whole year I'd look, listen observe learn and respect the responsibilities
of DJ. With a few house parties (Thanks SeelFresh) under my belt & practice
session (Thanks IGF) I was off & running. Once I got a party it seems
like other kept following. In 2001 I traveled overseas to spend time with
a friend in Holland and that same friend knows what kind of passion I've for
spinning and got my opportunity to spin at local radio station. My love for
radio grew as well and once I returned home, I went on a search for radio
station looking Disk Jockey. My search for radio station came to end when
I was hired at UIC (University of Chicago) for the summer. The experience
was everything I imagine and more but my stay UIC was short lived. To expand
my career I interned at marketing & promotional company named Chrwed.
Chrewd gave me experience I needed help me decided how market myself in music
business and gave me opportunity learn about street promotion, college radio,
picture inventory and calendar events. While at chrewd I'd applied for radio
slot at DePaul University since I was attending the school at the time and
with help of William West that attemped become reality. Will and I hosted
the show together in start of fall 2002 and show been huge success ever since.
In summer of 20003 I wanted to further my knowledge of turntablism and enrolled
at Scratch Academy in NYC. The late Jam Master Jay of Run DMC founded Scratch
Academy. My instructors during my visit were DJ I-merge & Neil Armstrong
of the 5th Platoon. After intense week course I received my certicate of accomplishing
SOS 303 in scratching & beat juggling. After having experiencing Scratch
Academy I wanted to give back what I'd learned at Scratch to others back in
Chicago. With the help of Red Eye and Monty Burks I now am assist to DJ Vaughn
Woods at Chicago DJ Academy.
