Established in May of 1984, Tables of Distinction has been the major link for dee jays in the Washington DC metropolitan area to record companies throughout the United states whose primary focus is the production, recording and promotion of the Urban music formats: R&B, Rap, Hip Hop, Reggae, Blues and of course the most popular genre of music throughout the DC area, Go-Go.

Tables of Distinction is a seventy five member dee jay organization designed to assist record companies, both major and independent, with the promotion of their new record releases from the respective labels by distributing the records to its dee jay members, who then personally screen and review the records to help make a determination as to whether or not the records will be played by the dee jays in the different environments where the emphasis is on dancing. Such venues include, but are not limited to local area nightclubs, concert halls, banquet facilities, sports arenas and in some cases local radio stations, etc.
